Nancy (Brig) of Rochester, Nathan Briggs, master, Seth Barlow, second mate, keeper, on voyage from New York to Gothenburg March 26, 1810- May 28, 1810. Journal volume confiscated by the Danes for seven months while Barlow and his shipmates were taken onboard the Danish privateer North Star and later confined at Trondheim. (See NBW 1270, May 29, 1810-September 13, 1810). Journal recommences back onboard the Nancy, January 20, 1811- May 20, 1811 bound for Newry, Ireland.

Remarks Saturday May 19th These 24 Hours Moderate Winds attended with Rane Took in StudingSails and [Board?] by the Wind Fell in with the Brig Deliverance from Cape Ann bound for Gottenburg out 40 Days Supplied him with Wood for which in return he gave us a Sma[ll] [Teash?] of Warter, Supposed himSelf to be in Long. 28 W. took in topgallant Sailes and Jib Single reefed the topSails and try Sails. Clost reefed the topSails and TrySail, handed the F. Top Sail Sent Down topgallant Yards Strong gales thick and rainy with a bad Sea....... So ends the Day Clost reefed M. topSail Variation 2¾ P. W.

Remarks Monday May 21st Fresh Breezes and Clear. Bore down and Spoke the foregoing Ship, found her to be the Harmony from the W. Indies, bound for Glassgo out 91 Days, in a Starving Condition, Supplyed her with, Bread, Meat and Warter Capt Informed he had lost 4 Men on the Passage, Just Buried one about 2 hours Before, -- Judged himself to be in 20° 30" W Longitude. Shook out the reefs of TopSails, A great Swell from the N.E. Sent up the Maintopgallant Yard & Set the Sail...... Squared the Yard Set Studing Sails and M.T.T. Sail hauled down TrySail F. Stay Sail & Jib Sent up the foretopgallant Yard, two Sails ahead a Ship and Brig.
