Nancy (Brig) of Rochester, Nathan Briggs, master, Seth Barlow, second mate, keeper, on voyage from New York to Gothenburg March 26, 1810- May 28, 1810. Journal volume confiscated by the Danes for seven months while Barlow and his shipmates were taken onboard the Danish privateer North Star and later confined at Trondheim. (See NBW 1270, May 29, 1810-September 13, 1810). Journal recommences back onboard the Nancy, January 20, 1811- May 20, 1811 bound for Newry, Ireland.

Moderate Winds and Cloudy, Plenty of Land in Site a Sail Standing out from under it the N. also Saw a Sail to Windard.----- at 8 the S.E point of [Lewises?] Isleand bore S.W. 6 Miles Distance, 3 or 4 Snow Capt Mountains began to Wrear their heads above the horizon Bearing S. by E. Hove about and Stood to the North Spoke a Brig from London for the West Indies.---- at 1 AM. Made 2 Isleands on the Lee Bow, Left them on the Larboard hand, at noon the above Mountains S.E. and Appeared there All Sail Set so ends the Day

Remarks on board Norway Brig Nancy in the Elve --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunday Jany 20th

This Day, I again Commence Writing in this journal, which has been absent from me upwards of 7 Months. It has been thro the Prize Court of Drontheim, and the high Court of Admirality in Copenhagen, has been Signed by the Clerk of the last Court as [Genuine?], and found its way to me about the 10th of the Present Month. The first Part of these 24 Hours Strong Gales at S. W. attended with rane. latter Part moderate and warm. Clear and Calm. One Brig dropt out into the Bay ready for Sea. Read the Novel of PAUL and VIRGINIA== and The Indian Cotage, or a ramble after truth which is to be found no where but in [large letters]NATURE D S d Revd of Capt Briggs -- 7,,0,,0 -- Wages Cook -- 3,,0,,0 -- Money Lent Silas -- 1,,0,,0 -- D. Paid to the Wash Woman for Washing mending and makeing Clothes 5 Dollars. . . . . . So ends the Sabbath Day --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday Jany 21 st This Day fresh winds at S.S.W. Cloudy, took on board one liter of Deals and one Long Boat of [Stubsheto?]. Bent the Best Bower Cable, also Bent the TrySail, MaintopSail, ForetopSail and Jib A Brig last evening arrived from Ireland Nine Days Passage, One or two Ships Dropt out of the [River?], Loaded with Deals

This afternoon Silvanus Briggs accidently Baptized himself in the Purifying Warters of Drontheim, he had the good [-] to get out again, and all the Damage it Did, was to terify him a little thus ends the Day,
