So too to Charles and family extend my sympathies for I do not forget how deep must be the grief of Charles and of his family.

My dear mother I wish I could do something to lighten the burthen of your affliction. I know that your Christian faith is a better console than anything else besides. I am rejoiced that you have this resource

[Thomas?] and Anna Maria both desire that I should assure you of their sympathy and that they share the common grief

With kindest love to all

I remain your affectionate son

Dear Father & Mother

Enclosed find D O Mills & Co Draft No 15432 on the American Exchange Bank N.york and payable to the order of Josiah Stanford, for the sum of one thousand dollars. I have delayed writing for some time in order that it might be convenient to remit the enclosed. It is on acct of [?] Stanford. We are all quite well and business is fair. I have not time now to write mutch, but if I had more time I do not know that I could write mutch that would interest. I wish you were settled in this country and I hope the time will come when you will be. I believe it would be better for all. I shall write you more fully upon this subject some other time

Your affectionate son

of the Union and true Democracy of the rights of the People. And at this time there seems to me much fitness in the name of Union administration party, for it is the Union the party seeks to perpetuate and to support the Administration to support which is the honeset and faithful and only ultimate through which the people can effectively act. Our government is emphatically one of the People. It is the strongest and most powerful the world ever saw because the people by that support make it so. For my part I have long held that a great portion of the masses of the democratic party were really in accord with the Republic and I have steadily labored to write in action those thus agreeing. I appreciated the power and effectiveness of party organizers and I was anxious always that this Union sentiment should have the full benefit of organization, and I am proud to think that such is now the case. The Union Sentiment has the full benefit of the entire organization of the Republican party

of the State, and the result will be an overwhelming victory for the cause of the People. I cannot permit myself to think that the intelligent people of El Dorado will let internal decisions over individuals blind them to the overwhelming importance of their own great cause. Let no friends of mine say I would have them hold back from a cordial and earnest support of the ticket you have nominated

My dear friend the cause we in part are called upon to support is the most important for [?] or more that our people can ever be called upon to sustain support. It is the great cause of the people that is awaiting the most important decision that can ever be endured for or against them away with more [prejudices?] and [?] over individuals. Let us all strive to be imbued with the most lofty patriotism and let its consuls alone prevail.

Very truly

wait for this, as I think it might place us both in an awkward position. And before should I not be a [?] And besides I do not feel like being the target for abuse that I see Bulletin and kindred sheets are preparing for me as a candidate. The Bulletin of last evening puts us down as antagonistic and evidently with a purpose. It would be well if this could be contradicted in such a manner as the people would accepet as conclusive. The improper impression among our friends that we were in antagonism would be seriously [injurious?]. Until matters are settled I will proceed as though there might be no change. The letter from San Francisco says at least $2000.00 must be sent down to day. I will tell my brother to make the advance for me.

I will write from time to time as may be necessary.

Yours truly
