Cedars / Mary Thomas A. Pillow & myself went to our Cedars to try & save of them what we can for it appears the Citizens, Soldiers & Negroes are halling them off to Town for fire Wood until they wont be any left in a short time I met with Mary & Thomas in Town

Fri 28. I got 3 barrels of Salt from Nashville to day Ban Jordan halled it $11.00 per barrel & $5.00 each for halling I went to Town in the evening No particular news

John Mayes Burnion Frierson Jerramy Gilmore was in attendance & William M Pillow called the meeting The speeches said a good deal to the Negroes & Soldiers which comprised nearly all his hearers

Mon 31 / fight / Margaret / 11 Cedars When I went to Town this morning It is understood the fighting we heard yesterday was at Florrence We cant hear the result I got Margaret a pair of shoes $4.50 No. 4. I tryed to get my matters settled with Trust & Wilham but failed for my filla Green was trying to get his matters, pay for his work settled but failed (We pettioned the Col to stop cutting our Cedars)
Novr Tus 1st / Stopt passing / No passing / lost Pistol / Corn The morning is a little cloudy & cool I went to the edge of Town & was stopt by the pickets. Orders that no man be permitted to go through the Town or come out from Town Expecting the rebels in to Town shortly They have drove in all the Cattle Cows &c horses &c to Town Considerable excitement with the Troops & Citizens all round I lost my little pistol I think at Rankins gate We started in to halling up our Corn The Oxe Wagon & the 2 horse Wagon commenced yesterday in the long field It commenced drisiling rain late in the evening No news

Wed 2nd /Genl Reusau / Pickets / Genl Reausau & troops / prisoners / rain It rained slowly all night and still raining this morning We have got no news from the previous night up to 9 oclock. I went as far as the pickets on my way to Town The pickets did not think it safe to go to Town as orders were that no one should come out I met on the rode Genl Rousaus Brigade going South They have been passing all morning. News that the Confeds have crossed to the South of Ten river & having taken with them 2700 prisoners. Some fighting but cannot learn the particulars It has sprinkled rain all day (fine mist) the boys are trying to get up Wood, too wet to gather Corn

I sent Saul to Town he could get no papers, News &c The Citizens many of them he says are there & can not get out Orders that no one pass in or out only for the Doctor. Saul went for a sick little Negro Went through the lines & back by 9 1/2 oclock Adalines babe died Just after dark. News that there are a greate many Confeds Crossing the Tennessee River yesterday & to day Genl Rousaw is gone South a fight is on hands some where about here shortly. It has rained all this day Not hard

There is greate distress and trouble all round us The Southern Armey is aproaching near us but a few miles apart & our neighborhood right between them. There is greate danger of life & the destruction of property all annxiously Wating the issue. Some are getting off North from all round abot Columbia O What I would give for peace one time more in our troubled land. My heart throbs & Akes & I cant sleep nor rest day nor night My dear children God, please, protect & defend them from danger

Mon 7. / burning fence / Fighting / Ft Donelson & Johnsonville / Captured / Election It rained all night last night verry hard two soldiers ordered & got there breakfast Sargent Greer & another. They are of the pickets from the Shead they are burning our fence I went to Town late. News the rebbls have taken Ft Donelson & Johnsonville & Ft Heimon took many Government stores.
