Sir/I regret to have to state or inform you and through you the Colonel Commanding that the contagion so increasingly amongst the Battery horses daily they are taking the distemper on by one every day and from that to Glanders since the cold weather commenced Every care and attention have been and is bestowed upon them but all to no effect or purpose

Several have died during the present week after a short illness Should the Battery be ordered out for any duty or for drill or Inspection there is is not horses sufficient or fit to move it On the 27th ultimo I forwarded a requisition to Maj Wilkes Comdg Battalin for 40 horses and received no answer to the same as yet

Trusting you will cause some steps to be taken to restore the Light Battery to its former strength, or number of horses by causing an additional supply to be obtained either by purchase or impressment

Very respectfully your obt servt P Fox Capt Comdg Light Arty Co
