Head Quarters light Artillery

Galveston July 22nd 1864

Sir

As per verbal instructions from the Brig. Genl Commanding 1st Military Sub District I have the honor to inform you of the result of experimental fireing with 12 Pound Brass Rifle Gun turned over to me by Capt Charles Benton Ordonance Officer.

Result of fireing as follows 3 Shots 3 degrees elevation, distance 1500 yards. 1st shot struck 100 yards left of Target. 2nd shot 60 yard right of Target. 3rd shot directly in front of Target. 3½ degrees Elevation. Distance of 2200 Yards 1st shot 50 yards in front of Target. 2nd shot 13 yards left of Target. 4 Degrees Elevation. Distance 2600 Yards. Shell exploded 10 yards in rear of Target using 1½ Pound Powder per charge and I have no doubts with a little Practice better results can be obtained

Galveston July 25th 1864 Galveston August 3d 1864

I would most respectfully state I have put in my requisition for the Clothing due my Company from last Quarter and Quarterly allowance for this Quarter ending on the 30th of September 1864 and as the men are almost entirely without Pants Shirts & Shoes I would respectfully request you will be kind enough to furnish the Clothing as soon as you can obtain them as they are absolutely necessary for the health and cleanliness of the men.

I am much obliged to you for your attention to my Quarterly Paper [[?]] Acct As I have drawn the allowance from Capt Stoy A Q Master at this place for the 3d Quarter therefore I cannot use your Requisition for the 3d Quarter but will herewith enclose you signed Requisition of the fourth Quarter 1864 hoping that the above may meet your approval and early attention

Please find inclosed List of Shoemakers in Battalion Light Artillery at Galveston Aug 10th 1864 and would respectfully state that these men are constantly employed in repairing Shoes &c for the two Companies and owing to the small amt of shoes issued It would be almost impossible to despense with their services without materially inferreing the Companies

This is to inform you that you will not leave Camp until the 4th of next month for this Place with the horses; this is done on Account of the bad health of the City at present but by starting when you are there will be no danger as all will e right by that time. When you start take your time and arrve slowly so as not to injure the horses No news worthy note So
