247 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 5 1887 Ordered that the contract for grading and improving Mill Street be awarded to WM Tierney upon his filing a bond in the sum of $4000.00 Ordered that the contract for grading Madison Street Extension be awarded to WM Tierney upon his filing a bond in the sum of $3000.00 and the City Attroney ordered to prepare the necessary contract and bonds. Orderd that the Chief of Police be and he is hereby ordered to discharge all Special Police Officers at once. Ordered that the Communicationof J M Lyon in regard to duplicate names of streets in the City be referred to to the City Surveyor and Committee on Streets. Ordered that this Council sign a petition to the County Commissioners calling their attention to the condition of the present Jail and request that the building be enlarged. Ordered that the Pacific Postal Telegraph Co be notified that their telegraph poles onSeventh Street are not in the proper place as directed by the Street Commissioner and that they be requested to put them where required by ordinance. Ordinances The City Clerk submits an Ordinance entitled "A Special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" which is passed by the following vote: In favor of the same, Furth, Frink, Green, Lake, Moran, Neisz, Russell and Reitze. Aganist the same none. Ordered that Council adjourn until Monday next at 7 o'clock PM Approved Thomas T Minor mayor Attest W R Forrest clerk.

249 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 8 1887 a sidewalk on the south side of Pine Street in the City of Seattle" which is passed by the following vote In favor of the same Frink, Green Lake, Moran, Neisz, Russell & Reitze Against none. An Ordinance is submitted by the Cit Attorney entitled "An Ordinance granting to the Seattle American District Telegraph Company the right and priveledge of erecting constructing maintaining and operating its telegraph system in the City of Seattle" which is passed by the following vote, viz: In favor of the same Frink, Green Lake, Moran, Neisz, Russell & Reitze Against none. An Ordinance is submitted by the Clerk entitled "An Special Ordinance appropriating moneyto pay audited bills" which is passed by the following vote Ayes Frink, Green, Lake, Moran, Neisz, Russell & Reitze Nays none. On motion of Councilman Lake ordered that each policeman be furnished with a copy of the Ordinance relating to duties of Police Officers. Ordered that the Street Committee make such repairs to Commercial and Mill Streets as they deem necessary. Andnow the Council proceeds to examine and equalize the Assessment Roll for the year 1887 in accordance with law, and to hear and determine objections thereto: Ordered that the following changes by made in said roll to wit: Pacific Postal Telegraph Co reduced on valuation of personal property from $3170. to $650.

251 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 9 1887 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the Cit of Seattle met in its Council Chamber this 9th day of August 1887 pursuant to adjournment The following officers are present to wit: Acting Mayor J Furth & Councilmen Frink, Moran, Neisz Russell & Reitze & W R ForrestClerk. The council proceeds with the examination and equalization of the Assessment roll for 1887. Ordered that Lot 7 Block 35 C D Boren's Plat be assessed to Mrs Lavinia Clark, and that lots 6-7-8-910 Block 28 Bigelows Addn be assessed to James E Clark said property having been omitted from the roll by the assessor. Ordered that Lot 7 Block 2 Bayside Addn be assessed to Helen L Pearce and that the same property be stricken from the assessment of Thos J McWarren Ordered that Block 20 Comstock Addition consisting of 8 Lots be assessed to C K Jenner at valuation of $560. the same having been omitted from the roll by the assessor. Ordered that 3&1/2 of land situated in Sec 20 Township 25 N R 4 and valued at $325. be assessed to J R Andrews the same being omitted by the ass'r Ordered that the A P Hoteling Co be reduced on personal property from $15,194. to $10,663. Ordered that E P Ferry be reduced on Personal Property from $14,929. tp $795. Acct. mortgages wrongfully assessed.

Ordered that J Furth be reduced on personal property from $46,750 to $12,200 account mortgages wrongfully assessed.
