About

The Anthony W. Wilkinson Letter Collection is composed of approximately 700 letters and postcards which were written by Edith Hartzell Grandy, a former army medic in the U.S. Civil War, between the 1860s and 1960s. These letters have been assessed by Gilb Museum staff as invaluable for their inclusion of the perspective of a woman living in California during the Civil War. Thus, the Gilb Museum intends to digitize these letters to make the information more available for a wider audience. Through the digitization and transcription of Hartzell-Grandy’s 700 letters and postcards, the Gilb Museum intends to make these letters available for researchers and reach a state-wide, national, and international audience.
