Sat 25 / Rain / Christmus day ) the morning is cloudy & Raining N. W. It rained nearly all night Slowly, and cold. Yelling & hollowing & fire crackers has been the order of last night & today amongst the blacks I stayed at home fitted & put a handle in the Axe No one here but some blacks children & me drisled & rained most of the day

Sun 26 / Charley Act. & work / See 18 July ) The morning is dark & cloudy N. W. My General health is about like it has been The Medicine I am taking is keping my bowels in some better fix (Bitter Watter) I have posted Charleys act. & work since he has been at work he commenced the 18 July and quit the 24 Dec'r having worked 5 months at $5.00 per month making $25.00 his Act. of moneys & cloathing See Act. drawed off [table]

1869 December Mon 27 / Clear day / Meal ) The morning is dark cloudy & raining slowly The are is moving from the S. & W. William & Jesse Harris is gone to Calaoka there is a Masonic perade there today & will be many people.cleared off & a pretty day before night Ja went to Will to Willbanks

Tu 28 / Prestons hogs See Act. ) The morning is cloudy a little at N. W. I bot Preston's hogs 10 of them $30.00 paid him $10.00 cash and credited his Act. with $20. more

Wed 29 / Preston Corn / Preston / George H. Corn / Rich'd $21.00 Corn / Jim Corn / Caleb Corn / Corn Total ) The morning is mostly clear (N. W.) I got also 2 loads of corn of Preston at 84. pr barrel 6 bbs makin $24.00 to be credited on his Act with me.

I got in all The feed 4 loads got otherwise (divide) 10 loads [table]

Got of George Hargrove 13 1/2 loads this includes the feed corn and all The Wagon bed hold 3 bbs Got of Richard 6 loads & Rich'd owes 2 loads that is 6 bbs at $21.00 [table]

Jim's Corn I got 6 loads of corn [table]

Caleb Corn I only Got 4 loads of corn lacks one load of enough to pay the feed of the mules Put it all in old Smoke house [table]

One hundred & Twenty four bbs from 1st to last put in the Crib

1869 December Th 30 /. Adaline Porter Settlement Archer Do See Act. Book page 62. 63 / Dream ) The morning is clear calm Wind N. W. Ground frose Not verry cold I had a calculation of Adaline Acts, of everything between us She has fallen in my debt $32.78 Cents. See Act. Book page 62 & 63. This includes a settlement also with Archer (Monk) and me up to this time, all settled. Adaline has left her home and gone moved to Mr. Dixon to live Went yesterday

I had a dream last night that has crossed my mind several times today, I keep thinking about it. Some news or information by letter and otherwis that may be verry interesting

either for Good or bad I fear it is not for my Good it was presented to me in my sleep several times last night with much fource that it has made me reflect a good deal about it (I think it will come by letter) George P. painted at Smoke house 1/2 the day

Fr 31 / Jo Thomas $.75 Puss $1.00 / Walker & Walker Attos McBain Moore / Georg P. / Rain ) The morning is clear calm cold N. W. I sent Puss to Town got a gallon of linsed oil for George to paint Smoke house I paid Jo Thomas for making fires & feeding this week $.50 & I owed him $.25 I let Puss have one dollar to spend I got a letter from Walker & Walker at Nashville enquiring the whereabouts of J. D. McBain asking if he was the partner of J. M. Moore I answered by saying he did not pass himself as a partner but an agt & that I learned from Ament that he was dead & that I did not know his last place of residence George P. painted at the Smoke house today It Rained at 11 oclock at night

R.R. accidents & deaths, the burning of houses, and sinking & burnuing boats & the many lives lost, dairing Roberies, defalting officers all this year past 1869 will long be remembered. I say farewell 1869

Rain / Rain at 9 A. M. / Snow at 10 P. M. large drops / Snow at 3 P. M. / Snow 12 ) It commenced raining with the New Year about mdinight last night and it still raining this morning slowly Wind N. W. but mostly calm. The weather some moderated Verry large flakes of Snow heavy Snow fall commenced about Ten oclock A. M. Verry large drops the ground (at 3 P. M.) is covered 2 1/2 or 3 Inches deep and still snowing coming from the W. & N. West & quite cold bad on man & best. It snowed until midnight

Sun 2 / Chickens / Snow ) the morning is cloudy Wind N. W. & cold the chickens are freesing in the Snow, terable time on the Stock. Our wood is out, bad chance. it cleared off about 12 oclock & the sun shown out but cold wind from the N. W. My General health is about like it has been I can't rest any night until the turn of the night & after the turn of the night I have to get up mostly every 15 or 20 minnits Diabetes until near day Some times I am better & other times worse today I used the Surrenge and a pill at night (I got releaf)

1870 Jany Mon 3 / Snow / court Commenced / County Cort last years taxes $145.40 / Snow / Jo Thomas hired year / Jo Thomas The morning is cloudy Wind N. W. & snowing fine Snow & verry cold This is the first week of the Circuit Cort Hugh J. Farris shot Jordan the other day art Hampshire he died Friday last Jordan was a desperate man had threatened Farris who took advantage & shot him with a gun in the back of the head. The County Cort also sits this morning there will be many people in Town today I would like to be in Town but my health won't admit it I sent by William $115.00 to pay my last year's taxes paid $145.40 cts. recpt given by James Wilkins T. Collector It has all the forepart of the day been snowing fine snow. It is snowing at 4.35 the Snow is falling coming from the N. W. looks like a heavy snow a coming tolerable fast I have made agreement with Jo thomas for the year to work at anything I may direct him at Ten dollars .50 cents per month to let him have money along as he may need it & at the end of the year to settle all up with him I am to board him during the time of hire

Tu 4/ Thos ice / Jo Sick ) The morning is quit cold Cleard, N. W. The weather much moderated Thos is prepairing to put up Ice Cleaned out the Ice house put up 12 loads Jo Thomas sick

Wed 5 / Jo sick lost money found ) The morning is clear calm & cold Wind N. W. I missed out of my pocket book this morning a 5 & a 2 dollar bills About 2 week ago the same thing. found the $5 & 2 today
