The said report is as follows:

The Comee appointed to report on the subject of rebuilding the gate of stone, constructing a new fence, enlarging the grounds of the cemetery & planting trees respectfully report, that they have had the subjects committed to them under consideration & have come to the following resolutions

with the adjacent Porters Lodges of hammered granite, of substantially the same form made & dimensions as the present gate & lodges. That this object can be accomplished within a reasonable time without breaking in upon what they deem a desirable object, the retaining of a fund in the hands of the corporation which shall be adequate to all the expenses of the Corporation. They think that contracts may be made for the furnishing the granite & erecting the gate & lodges within a period of two years from the time the contracts are made; & that in this manner the prolonged time will enable the work to be done in a cheaper & in a more perfect style. If this course is adopted, the sum of Twenty five thousand dollars which is the present fund may be kept whole for the purposes of the institution & the monies received from the sales of the lots & interest upon the accummulation & the surplus will be found at the end of the time two years adequate to the accomplishment of the object

Iron Fences

Second. The comee also suggest that it will be desireable as soon as the gate & lodges are completed to begin to erect an iron fence on the whole front line of the grounds at Mount Auburn & to

proceed with the erection from year to year until the whole is completed accor ding to the state of the funds. They also suggest that on the three other sides it is

expedient to plant a ^living hedge fence of buckthorn or some other suitable shrub on the inside of the present fence; believing that in a few years in this way a very handsome & permanent hedge may be thus obtained at a comparitively trifling expense.

Purchase of Land

Third. The comee also recommend the purchase, if it can be obtained upon reasonable terms of ten or twelve acres of land upon the western and southern side of the grounds at Mount Auburn continguous to the present fence as a suitable enlargement of the premises & also as giving a better permanent boundary. Upon traversing the land they found it well suited to the purposes of the Cemetery.

New Lots.

Fourth. The comee also recommended the adoption of the recent plan of Waldo Higginson laying out the lots at the South Eastern part of Mount Auburn & to have a suitable number of trees planted & seeds sown there to insure a good growth of ^forest trees in the
