to send an Extract of this Minute to the Registrar of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons without delay.

A complaint ws made regarding the conduct of a Student in Arts, specially affecting Professor Bell. At Professor Bell's request it was agreed not to prosecute this matter, and the Principal was requested to admonish the Student in private.

The meeting was closed with the benediction.

[margin] Report on Medical Examinations [/margin]

A Report from the Registrar of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in reference to the recent examinations in Medicine was laid on the table along with the relative documents. The Principal, the Registrar and Professor Bell were appointed a Committee to examine the same

The meeting was adjourned till Monday, twenty fifth instant, at one o'clock P.M.

[margin] Graduation in Medicine [/margin]

The Committee appointed to examine the documents relating to the recent examinations in Medicine, reported that all the Requisite Certificates of Candidates had been given in, and it was accordingly resolved, on the motions of Professor Murray seconded by Professor Mackerras, that the Degree of Doctor of Medicine should be conferred, and it is hereby conferred, on Albert Armstrong, Joseph Campbell, John J. Dugdale, George W. Howell, Robert Mark, Daniel

Daniel Meagher, John C Moore, David Munro, James R. Paterson, George F. Roulleau, Francis M Water, Allen H Walker. It was also agreed that a certificate should be given to Lawrence Saunders, that he had passed the requisite examinations for the Degree of Doctor of Medicine and that the sole reason for his obtaining the Degree is that he has not reached the age of twenty-one years.

It was further declared that the following gentlemen should be declared, and they are hereby declared, to have passed their Primary Examination in Medicine: Samuel Abbott, Charles Bleasdell, D.B. Booth, James Clarke, John R. Dickson, David Johnston, H.J. Murphy, J.A. Oliver, John O'Sullivan, Albert Rockwell.

There was read an Extract Minute of the Faculty of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons at Kingston, recommending that the Degree of Doctor of Medicine should be conferred on Surgeon Thornton of the North Regiment. The Registrar was instructed to refer the Faculty of the said College to the Bylaws with reference to Graduation in Medicine agreed upon by the Senate on the nineteenth of November, 1866, by which Bylaws the Senate finds itself prevented from agreeing to the above recommendation.

[margin] Application for New Diplomas [/margin]

An application was made in behalf of Oliver Thibode and Robert Thibode, Doctors of Medicine in this University, that new diplomas should be granted to them on the ground of their having lost by fire the diplomas previously issued. It was agreed to ascede to this application on the condition that a note in Red ink should be written on the diplomas stating the cause.

[margin] Matriculation Examination in Medicine [/margin]

An application was made by the Principal on behalf of certain students of Medicine for the appointment of a Medical Matriculation Examination. The Senate appointed an Examination accordingly to take place on Thursday, eighteenth instant, in the Convocation Hall, beginning at ten o'clock forenoon, Samuel Woods, Esq. M.A., to be Examiner, and candidates to be admitted in accordance with the Act to amend the Medical Act for Upper Canada, Victoria 29-30, Chapter 54. The Registrar was instructed to send an extract of this Minute to the Registrar of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons at Kingston.

The Senate adjourned till Tuesday, the twenty-third instant, at twelve o'clock noon.

[margin] Matriculants in Medicine [/margin]

The Report of the Examiner at the Medical Matriculation Examination, held on the eighteenth instant, was read, and in accordance with the same it was agreed that the following gentlemen should rank, and they hereby do rank, as Undergraduates: F.C. Wilson, R. H. Moore, G.H. Denwoodie, T.H. Thornton, A.C. Fairbairn, T. McCaffray, G.F. Herchimer.

[margin] Graduation in Arts [/margin]

There was also read an Extract from the Minutes of the Senatus, recommending the following gentlemen for the Degree of Bachelor of Arts, David P. Niven, Alexander Nicholson, William H. Fuller, Robert Campbell, John F. Bain, James A Macdowall, John H. Nimms. In accordance with this recommendation the Senate resolved to confer, and hereby do confer the Degree of Bachelor of Arts on these gentlemen.

The Senate, having received the necessary recommendations, unaniminously resolved to confer.

and hereby do confer, the Degree of Bachelor of Doctor of Laws on Edward S. Chapman, Ph.D., Professor of Minerology and Geology in University College, Toronto.

A petition was read from Mr. James A Hope, M.A. praying the Senate to confer on him the Degree of Bachelor of Civil Law. The Senate resolved that they could not confer the Degree requested, and instructed the Registrar to answer the petition.

The Annual Report of the Curators of the Library was read and adopted.

[margin] Decision on University Prize Essays [/margin]

In accordance with the decision of the gentlemen appointed to examine the Essay on Confederation, the Senate resolved to adjudge the Prize to the Essay bearing the motto, "Union is Strength".

In accordance with the decision of the Examiners of the Essay on Auerent Oratory, the Senate resolved that it should not receive the Prize.

In accordance, with the decision of the Examiner of the Essays on Presbyterianism and on the Sabbath, the Senate resolved to award to them their several prizes.

[margin] Announcement of University Prize Essays [/margin]

It was agreed that the following University Prizes should be announced at the ensuing Meeting of Convocation.

I. The Toronto Prize of $40 for the best Essay on the "Advantages of a University Education" open to all Students.

II. A Graduates Prize of $30 for the best essay on the "Rise and Progress of Dramatic Literature in Ancient Greece". Open to all Students in Arts.

III. The Montreal Prize of $40 for the best essay on "Reasoning by Analogy with Illustrations". Open to all Students in Theology.

IV. Church Agents Prize of $25 for the best Essay on the "Advantages and Responsibilities of Connection with the Parent Church". Open to all students in Theology.

The Senate instructed the Registrar to request the Board of Trustees to allow the Senate to make use of the College Seal in transmitting a list of
