had dinner at a swell Italian restaurant on Ben, as it was Ben’s birthday. Went to theatre, met some Canadian soldiers, went with them.

Worked all day handing out equipment & packing. Went for a walk with Bert Hope in the evening over to the Ifal Tower.

Sunday, June 3, '17

Got up at 5 A.M. Company formed, pictures taken. Left Paris for Soissons at 9:50. Reached Vierzy at 2:30. Detrained and drove in carvions to our camping ground in a woods near Dommiers. Soissons being on the front and under military rule we couldn't enter on the train. Saw the first used trenches and entanglements. Trenches & dugouts in the woods

Left for Paris at 2 o'clock for our leave before going to the frunt. Had a dirty dusty ride to Longpont. Took pictures of the old mission (founded & built in 1209) arrived in Paris at 7:10. Had a fine dinner at the ChineseUmbrella. Stayed at the Grand.

Thursday, June 14, '17

Got up late. Went around Paris a little in the morning alone. Went to 21 Rue Raynouar for lunch and our orders. Did much shopping down town before dinner. Had one grand dinner, Herb, Dick Bert, Ben and myself. Went down to the slums in the evening.

room at the Grand. Had hard time getting any breakfast at 8 o'clock. Too early for the French. Left Paris for camp at 9:45. Arrived at camp, at Dommiers at 3 o'clock. Bud and I went back to the camp at Longpont for water. Got back at 7. Packed trunks ready to break camp at 6 A.M. for the frunt.

Saw the first German plane while leaving camp. Got to our new camp at the frunt, Jouaignes about 2 o’clock. Spent the wrest of the day cleaning our remorques and getting our beds made. (P.S. 3 pages ahead)

Had the day off to work around camp, getting things in order.

Got up at 10 A.M. Fooled around camp until 2 P.M. Had a lecture and demonstration on the care of our cars by Captain Erhard. Herb Brown arrived from Paris. Everybody delighted to see him. Transfered from in charge of No 9 to second driver with Ben Burton on No 6 by my request. Mighty glad to get with Ben and get away from Wheeler.

Monday June 25

Worked all day with Ben on his car for inspection. Officer said the car was very good.

had great tales to tell how the shells burst Bob Smyth crawled under a moving camion to get away from the shells. Not more than twenty yards away. "Cutie" got tooted & was very sick when he came to bed.

Fooled around camp and wrote letters. Got orders to leave on permission in twenty minutes. Some scurying. Left Fair en Tardenois at 7 P.M. No dinner. Arrived in Paris at 11:10. Tried to get a hammand bath. Went to the Hotel Grand. Nine fellows got their permission Dick McClaren, Herb Kendall, LeRoy Krusi, Jack McKinley, Travis Lane, Parker Van Zandt, Ray Fox, and Ronald Foster.
