157 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Mar 4 1887 Be it remembered that on this 4th day of March 1887 the Common council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. the Following officers are present to wit: His Honor the Mayor W H Shoudy, and Councilmen Furth, Frink, Green, Hinckley, Lake & Reitze. The following proceedings are had to wit: The minutes of the last meeting are read and approved. Petitions etc. Petition of F E Sander et al for a sewer on Main Street from South Fourth Street & South Third Street to the Bay. Referred to Committee Sewers & Drainage with instructions to report in writing at the next meeting of the Council. Petition of Wm Koch et al for the opening of certain portions of Lombard & other Streets for travel Referred to Street committee. Petition of Genevieve Farrer et al for the opening of Knights Street from East Street to Broadway. Referred to Street Committee Petition of H L Yesler for permission to put lath and plaster partitions in the building known as Yesler's Hall corner Front & Cherry Streets. Granted. Petition of Charles Maidment and James Welch for Street Lights Corner Seneca & Fifth, & Seneca & Sixth streets. Granted. Communication from Street Commisssioner Cummings recommending that the property owners along the line of the Marion Street sewer be required to make proper connections therewith. 231 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jul 15 1887 City Attroney directed to draw the usual contract and the contractors directed to file a good and sufficient bond in the sum of Two thousand (2000) dollars. Ordered that the contrat for bulding sidewalk and bridge be awarded to Finch & Henderson upon thier finling a bond in the sum of $1000.00 and the City Attorney directed to draw the usual contract. North School House Property Councilman Frink states that he has communicated with the School Trustees of School District No 1 and that the said trustees are ready to transfer the North School House property. to wit: Lots numbered 9 & 12 Block 52 A A Denny's 3rd Addtition upon the terms heretofore offered and moves that upon a porpoer transfer being made a warrant for the sum of Four Thousand (4000)dollars be drawn in favor of said School District. Carried. On motion of Councilman Reitze Ordered that the following shall be the linits within which property shall be subject to a special tax for lighting of the streets gas or electric lights and within which the City shall furnish the same to wit: Commencing at the foot of Dearborn Street and running thence East along the South side of Dearborn Street to 12th St thence north along the East side of 12th St to Mill Street thence West along the north side of Mill St to Broadway, thence along the east side of Broadway to 14th Street, thence northwesterly along the east side of 14th Street to Depot Street to Railroad Avenue, thence along Railroad Avenue to Mill Street, thence South on a line parallel with Commercial Street two hundred and fifty six feet west of the west line of Commercial Street to Dearborn Street the place of beginning.

235 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jul 21 1887 The following proceedings are had, to wit: Petitions etc Rec'd Petition of Puget Sound Improvement Company and others for a sewer in Pike Street. Read and referred to Com. on Sewers. Petition of Trustees of M E Church for permission to use streets immediately fronting their lots on the corner of Third + Marion Streets. Granted with permission to use one half of said streets. Petition of Engine Co. No. 4 for a fire alarm bell, read and referred to Committee on Fire and Water. Petition of Wm Hammond and others asking that the or-dinance prohibiting the use of cow bells within certain limits be extended to Mercer Street; read and on motion tabled. Communication from John W McGee withdrawing owners consent to sell liquor on premises known as the Inde-pendence Saloon on East side of South Second Street and occupied by John Shepich, read and referred to Committee on Revenue and License.

Report and message of the Mayor read and filed. Annual Report of City Atty, read and filed. Applications Referred. H.M. Duncan, Committee Reports Rec'd. From street committee granting petition of A Slorah + others for opening Sixth Street from Lake Street to Broad-way. From Comittee on sewers granting petition of John Kinnear and others for a sewer on Battery Street. the Committee find that the sewer now constructed is not of sufficient depth to allow the surface water to run

Ordered that Council do now adjourn until Friday Evening August 19th at 8 o'clock Approved J Furth acting mayor Attest W R Forrest clerk Aug 19 1887 Be it remembered that on this 17th day of August A D 1887 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law and The following officers are present to wit: Acting Mayor J Furth and Councilmen Frink, Green, Moran, Neisz, Russell & Reitze, and W R Forrest Clerk. On motion of Councilman Reitze the reading of the minutes is suspended. Petitions etc. Petition of O Jacobs & Others for the opening Depot Street from Banner to Broadway, and the condemnation of property necessary thereof read and referred to Street committee. From Puguet Sound Improvement Co praying that the Ordinance establishing the grade of Pike Street changed to conform with the present grade, read and referred to Street Committee. From Davidson & Grubb praying for permission to transfer liquor license from the Blue Front Saloon to the Villard House read & on motion granted. Petitonof J D Lowman for theopening of Eleventh Street from Columbia Street to Madison Street
