318 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Aug 3/83 Ordered that the time for the completion of the Improvement of Cherry Street under Ordinance No 395 be & the same is hereby extended to December 1,1883. Ordered that the time for completion of the Improvement of South 3rd Street under Ordinance No 399 be & the same is hereby extended to October 1,1883. Ordered that the petition by S F Hoole for an extension of time on the Improvement of Washington Street under Ordinance No 369 be & the same is hereby referred to a special Committee to wit: Day, Clancy & McDonald. Ordinances Received From the City Attorney entitled "To prevent the unauthorized Interference with Gas Pipes, gas meters and Street Lamps." thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following to wit: In favor of adoption, Clancy, Day, Harris, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke & Wusthoff. Against Adoption none. Ordinances are submitted each being entitled "A special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills", thereupon after due consideration the same are adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, Harris, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke & Wusthoff. Against adoption none. 319 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 4/83 Thereupon the following proceedings are had: And now His Honor the Mayor announces the following Committees and the membership thereof for the ensuing year as follows, towit: Judiciary and Legislative McDonald, Rasin & Day Public Buildings, Property and Grounds Clancy, Ranke & Harris Health and Police Ranke, McDonald & Wusthoff Finance Harris, Day and Clancy Gas Lights Day, Wusthoff and Rasin Fire and Water Supply Wusthoff, Harris and Clancy Streets and Street Improvements Rasin, Day and McDonald Licenses and Revenue Ranke, Clancy and Wusthoff Harbor and Wharves Day, McDonald and Rasin Special Committee to Superintend Construction of Columbia Street Engine House Clancy, Harris and Ranke Petitions Rec'd From S.F. Hoole for a resurvey of work done on Washington Street Improvement. Referred to Streets. From J.P. Jones for the removal of obstruction from the alley in Block 37 of Denny's plat. Referred to Streets. From Frank Lessman et al for the right to use the license of Lessman & McLeod. Referred to Licenses and Revenue. 321 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 4/83 In favor of said Report: Day, Harris & Ranke. Against the same Rasin. Unfinished Business The petition of S.F. Hoole for damages caused by changing the grade on Washington Street is referred to Street. Committee. The petition of B. Gatzert et al for changing the grade on 4th Street is referred to Street Committee. The Ordinance to authorize the construction of a Street Railway is referred to Street Committee. Bids Received And now the Council proceeds to open and consider bids for the Improvement of Pine Street under Ordinance No. 421. Which bids are as follows, towit: Strong & Harkins Earth work per cu yd 36&1/2 cents Sidewalks M B.M.[per thousand board feet] $17. Box drains M B.M.[per thousand board feet] $19.75 John Keenen Earthwork per cu yd 37&1/2 cents Sidewalks M B.M.[per thousand board feet] $17. Box drains M B.M.[per thousand board feet] $17. And now the Council proceeds to open and consider the bids for the Improvement of 9th Street under Ordinance No. 395. Which bids are as follows, towit: H.F. Frahm & Co. Earth work per cu yd 47 cents Cribbing per sq yd $3.51 Sidewalks M B.M.[per thousand board feet] $18. Box drains M B.M.[per thousand board feet] $75. grubbing and clearing per acre $100. Ordered that all the foregoing bids be and they are hereby referred to the Street Committee. And now the Council proceeds to the examination & consideration of the asessment roll for the following Streets, towit: Jackson Street Improvement Ord. 398, South 3rd St Improvement Ord. 399 & Seneca Street Improvement Ord 401; thereupon said Rolls are referred to the Finance Committee. 325 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 6/83

Ordered that the Attorney be & he is hereby instructed to submit an Ordinance to prevent the employment of Chinese on public Improvements.

Ordered that a Comtee towit: Harris, Ranke & Wusthoff be & they are hereby appointed to interview the citizens & report to the Council suitable provisions for the reception of Henry Villard & party upon their arrival in this city in September next

Ordered that the Clerk be & he is hereby instructed to advertise for bids for the City printing & gas work for the ensuing year.

Ordinances Rec'd An Ordinance is submitted entitled "A Special Ordinance appropriating money to pay Audited bills." thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following Vote, towit: In favor of adoption Day, Harris, Rasin, Ranke & Wusthoff. Against the same none.

Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Friday August 10.1883 at 8 o'clock P.M.
