The five 1st Order light stations in this district will have to be provided with oil-houses before the mineral oil lamps are put in as none of these stations have suitable storage room. The houses should all be of brick and of same size (16’4” x 11’10”) as in plan sent by the board. The stations and estimated cost of oil-house for each are as follows: Tillamook Rock $1818.83 Cape Orford (Blanco) 1818.83 Cape Flattery 1818.83 Cape Foulweather 1563.83 Cape Disappointment 1606.83

Detailed estimates are enclosed for the two sizes of brick houses, with changes for the different stations noted on them. The stations are arranged in the order of

544 – Cape Foulweather The keepers commenced work in the new drain for the vaults by digging the trench and placing in it a temporary open wood drain. 546 – Point Adams An examination was made of the LH Reservation and vicinity with a view to the prevention of sand drift, and plans prepared to effect this by means of vegetation and plantations. A report and estimate was sent to the Board Aug 5th 1884. 567 – Shoalwater Bay An examination similar to that at Point Adams, was made with reference to the prevention of sand drift. The keepers cleared the sand off the plank road from the barn to the lighthouse

The plastering in the dwelling, the window blinds, and plank walk from dwelling to tower were repaired and some new branch walks were made. Work by hired labor assisted by keepers.

543 – Cape Arago The brush on the land cleared last spring was burned and the clearing away of the logs and residue left was commenced and nearly completed.

544 – Cape Foulweather The iron work for the tramway car and winch were obtained and shipped to the station. The lumber for the tramway was obtained at Yaquina Bay and work commenced. Some minor repairs were made by the keepers to the dwelling occupied by the 2nd assistant keeper.

Sir, I have the honor to recommend that Cape Foulweather Light Station be furnished with a derrick, or other suitable means, for hoisting supplies from the beach on the south east side of the light house reservation to the top of the bluff, by which it is loaded. The beach which has been used for landing heavy supplies, since the station was established is a mile from the station, is shoal and rocky, and can be used only when the sea is smoothest.
