395 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE. Mar 2 1888 Be it remembered that on this 2nd day of March 1888 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following officers are present, viz: Mayor Minor, Councilmen Furth, Frink, Green, Lake, Moran, Niesz, & Russell & W. R. Forrest Clerk. The following proceedings are had, to wit: Petitions etc Petition of C. N. Cooper & others for opening Dexter Street from Depot Street to Republican Street, read and referred to Committee on Streets. Petition of J J Post and others for opening & planking alley west of Front Street between Union and University Streets, read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of D N Styde & others for opening portions of Roy and Victoria Streets read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of J D McDermott and others for opening portions of Fifth and Brook Streets, read and referred to the Street Com. Petition of Geo Kinnear for permission to grade at his own expense Roy Street from Temperance Street to Light Street and Light Street from Roy Street to Bluff Street; also Banner Street from ]]Roy Street]] to High Street, and that the Council cause the grade of said streets to be established, read and granted and the surveyor directed to establish said grades. Petition of Ingebright A Wald for correction of taxes, read and granted. Petition of Schwabacher Bros & Co for opening Union Street west of Front Street, read and referred to the Street Com. Petition of Schwabacher Bros & Co & others for the construction

407 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE. Mar 2 1888 Ordered, that the matter of the Columbia Street Improvement west of Front Street be made the special order of business for the adjourned meeting of the Council. Ordered that the Plat of Rutland Addition to the City of Seattle be referred to the City Attorney. Ordinances An ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance Establishing the grade of Fifth Street between Union Street and Depot Street" which is passed by the following vote, viz: Ayes Furth, Frink, Green, Lake, Moran, Niesz & Russell. Nays. None. An ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance to provide for the grading of Birch Street in the City of Seattle from Depot Street to Harrison Street and constructing a sidewalk on both sides thereof" which is passed by the following vote, viz: In favor of the same Furth, Frink, Green, Lake, Moran, Niesz & Russell. Against the same, none. An ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An ordinance to provide for the grading of Fifth Street in the City of Seattle from ]]Union Street]] to Depot Street and constructing sidewalks on said Street," which is passed by the following vote: In favor of the same Furth, Frink, Green, Lake, Moran, Niesz & Russell. Against the same, none. An ordinance submitted by the Clerk entitled "A Special Ordinance Appropriating money to pay audited bills" is passed by the following vote, to wit: In favor of the same, Furth, Frink, Green, Lake, Moran, Niesz & Russell. 411 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE an ordinance is submitted by the Clerk entitled as Special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills which is passed by the following vote: ayes Furth Frink Green Lake Moran Niesz & Reitze Noes none. Mar 7 1888 said hydrants to be delivered as follows: Twenty (20) on or before April 15th 1888 and twenty on or before May 15th 1888. Ordered that the City Surveyor ascertain and give the necessary fall for the Blanchard Street Sewer to connect with the Denny School house. Ordered that the Committee on Fire & Water be authorized to employ some one to put the fire alarm system in order. appropriation 907 Ordered that the Council do now adjourn. Mar 7 1888 Attest W R Forrest Clerk Approved Thomas T. Minor Mayor MAR 16 1888 Be it remembered that on this 16th day of March 1888 the Common Council of the City of Seattle met, persuant to law. The following officers are present, to wit: Mayor Minor and Councilmen Furth. Frink. Green, Moran Niesz & Russell. Clerk W. R. Forrest. Petitions etc. Petition of Geo Kinnear for permission to move a small house on Lot 3 Blk 10 Maynards plat from the street back to the alley and erect on said lot a business block 60 x 60 feet in size one story high. The same to be a wooden building. Read & referred to Com. on Fire and Water. Petition of S. N Sorenson for permission to move building from Lot 7 Block 14 Borens Plat, to Block 5 Sorenson's addition Lake Union, read & referred to Street Com. Petition of Alfred Snyder for extension of Box drain in James east to the alley between 11th & 12th Streets, read and referred to Com. for Sewers.
