on a picnic and enjoyed it very much. Tomorrow is Decoration Day, a holiday, but I dont know what we will do. Old Alex Marcellin left last night with his wife on the way back to France. We are sorry to have him go. He leaves from New York on a French liner for Havre. Mother was wishing that you could see him as he was a faithful soul, and thought so much of you boys.

They have begun work on Jack's house. He is having the bathroom all torn out, and is going to put in a shower etc. and tile it all. I dont think they can get in until the end of June.

I hope to hear from you before long regarding your back transportation. If you dont get it, you will have to let me know how much money I shall send you to come home on.

We got a nice letter from Helen. It seems she is not getting over those attacks as we all hoped. She has been two years under Zabriskie now.

Best love to you, Nor & Helen from your loving father

for the last eight years. Mary could not see it – & in the mean time was engaged to a man who was killed in France three years ago.

I am glad she has been able to overcome her sorrow (it was apparently a deep one) & is to be married. The young man Mr. Johnson has a big ranch & so Mary will have plenty of opportunity to "manage things."

I do hope she wll be happy for she is a wonderful girl in

Anyway, I've signed up in our Red Cross Ambulance Unit here at Fordham. We expect our physical examination any day now, and if I can get by, I doubt whether I'll see California this summer. France will be the first stop. I expect to encounter difficulty on account of my lamps, however.

The California Unit is in town at present – a large reception in their honor being held at the Ritz to-day. I intend to look them over (review them y' know) before they depart, to see if they have the stuff, and also to look for anyone I may know with them; Abird Kreese is in the herd I believe.

I looked Norman up in the U.S. Naval Hospital in Brooklyn, but just missed him a couple of days – too bad you didn't write a bit sooner.

Most of the colleges back here have adopted military drill – we go in for it six hours per week and two hours lecture – eight altogether.
