167 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Mar 18 1887 Miscellaneous On motion of Councilman Furth the petitions for sidewalks on Seventh Street hereto fore filed are re-referred to the Street Committee The Chief of Police having stated that Police Officer Tobias Butler had been absent from duty for about two months without leave, on motion of Councilman Furth Officer Butler's place on the police force is decreed vacant. On motion of Councilman Hinckley Charles Robinson is elected a member of the Police force to fill the vacancy caused by the removal of officer Butler, by a unanimous vote of the council. On motion the matter of Exending Madison Street is referred to the Street Committee and Judiciary Committee. Ordinances An Ordinance is submitted by the Clerk entitled "A Special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" Which is passed by the following vote viz: In favor of the same Coulter, Furth, Frink, Green, Hinckley, Lake Russell and Reitze. Against the same none. Ordered that the Council do now adjourn W H Shoudy mayor attest W R Forrest clerk Apr 18 1887

Miscellaneous Resignation of Police Officer W H Pinckney and Police officer Thos H Campbell read and on motion the same are accepted. On motion the Council now proceeds to elect two policemen to fill the vacancy caused by the resignationof Officers Pinckney and Campbell. Whereupon J D Duncan and W M Jones are duly elected Police Officers of the City of Seatle. The Street Commissioner presented a list of names of persons who have failed or refused to make proper connections with sewers and on motion of Councilman Furth the Chief of Police is directed to notify such persons to make proper connection at once and to prosecute them for failure to do so. On motion of Councilman Furth the alley west of Commercial Street between Washington Street and Jackson Street is ordered opened and the street

175 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Apr 1 1887 Commissioner directed to attend to putting a box drain in said alley Ordinances An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance to extend and establish Madison Street in the City of Seattle" which is passed by the following vote viz: in favor of the same Coulter, Furth, Frink, Green, Hinckley, Lake, Russell & Reitze. Against none. An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance relating to sewers and regulating the Drainage of the City of Seattle" which is passed by thefollowing vote viz: In favor of the same Coulter, Furth,Frink, Green, Hinckley, Lake, Russell & Reitze. Against none. An Ordinance is submitted by the City Clerk entitled "A Special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" which is passed by the following vote viz: In favor of the same Coulter, Furth, Frink, Green, Hinckley, Lake, Russell & Reitze. Against none. Ordered that the Council do now adjourn W H Shoudy mayor Attest W R Forrest clerk Apr 15 1887 Be it remembered that on this 18th day of April A D 1887 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meet in its Council Chamber pursuant to law.
