722 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Dec 4 1885 Miscellaneous On motion the report of the board of fire Delegates exonerating James Dunham Engineer of Engine No 2 from the charges made against him is adopted by the council as the report of the Council Ordered that the Street Comission proceed to erect a City Stable under the supervision of the Committee on Public Buildings and Grounds On motion the City Attorney is directed to enter the appearance of the City in the Case of Geo W Stetson vs The City of Seattle et al and the City Clerk ordered to issue all the James Street Grade Warrants that remain un issued and deposit the same with the Clerk of the District Court wherein the above entitled cause is now proceeding. Ordianace An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance in Reation to sewers and Drainage' which after due consideration by the Council is adopted by the following vote, viz: In favor of such ordinance, R H Calligan, J Furth, Geo W Hall, W A Harrington, John Keenen, T W Lake, Chas McDonald J J Post, and G W Young. Against none An Ordinance is submitted by the Clerk entitled "A special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited Bills" which is adopted by the following vote, In favor of same Calligan, [Furth]], Hall, Harrington, Keenen, Lake, McDonald Post, and Young. From Judiciary Committee recommending that the date of delinquency of city taxes be postponed until March 1st 1886. Action deferred until the next regular meeting.

From same committee recommending that Ordinance No. 637 be amended as follows: That Sec 7 be so amended as to omit the words "And that they have not signed in the proceeding three months a similar bond for any person engaged in the sale of intoxicating liquors." And amend Sec 8 by omitting the owners and lessons permit therefrom. Report adopted and the City Attorney directed to draw & submit the necessary ordinance.

Ordered that the COuncil do now adjourn.

Be it remembered that on this the 18th day of Dec 1885, the common council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law, the following officers being present, viz: His Honor the Mayor H. L. Yesler and Councilmen R. H. Calligan, J. Furth, Geo W. Hall, John Keenen, T. W. Lake, J. J. Post, and G. W. Young. When the following proceedings were had, to wit:

Petitions and Communications

Petition of Patrick Flynn et al, praying that a free soup house be established by the city. Referred to Committee on Health and Police.

Petition of Fred Keenen asking permission to put in a wooden partition in the building at 814 Front Street. Referred to Committee on Fire and Water.

Petition of Charles Baker asking that Depot Street be opened from Front Street to Temperance Street.
